Powell and Pohl

Wayne Powell and Amanda Pohl sought the Democratic nomination to run against Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield in the 11th District.

Democratic primary voters on Tuesday elected Amanda Pohl, an advocate for victims of sexual or domestic violence, to run against Sen. Amanda Chase, R-Chesterfield in the fall.

Pohl topped Wayne Powell, a lawyer from Midlothian, who had run for Congress in 2012, losing to then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-7th.

The district includes a large swath of Chesterfield, and all of Amelia County and the city of Colonial Heights.

Chase was first elected in 2015 after she upset Sen. Steve Martin in a GOP primary.
