DICKERSON, Hugh "Dickie" Henry III, passed away April 14, 2019, at age 67, following a courageous battle with ALS. He was the son of the late Hugh Henry Dickerson Jr. and Virginia Ann Sours Dickerson of Richmond, Va., and was a longtime resident of Chesterfield County. During his 32 years of service with Chesterfield County Police Department, he served in the capacity of Deputy Sheriff, Patrol Officer, Investigator, Senior and Master Police Officer, VICE, SWAT and became the department's first narcotics dog handler. Following his retirement, he went to work in Powhatan County as a Deputy until 2012. While in law enforcement, he received numerous commendations and service awards for his bravery and self-sacrifice. Hugh is survived by his sons, Jason Dickerson and Shawn Dickerson (Emily); granddaughter, Anystin Dickerson; siblings, Wayne Dickerson, Roy Dickerson, Sam Dickerson and Jenny Sue Garrett; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Passion Community Church (PCC), 4480 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan, Va. 23139, with Rev. Dr. Brian C. Hughes officiating.
