SOLIMANDO, John Frederick, better known as "Jack" by all who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2019. At 99 years of age, Jack continued to be the enthusiastic, outgoing and caring person who endeared himself to all he encountered. He was born and raised in Staten Island, worked in New York City, then moved to Chesterfield County, Virginia for his retirement. A true patriot, Jack achieved the rank of sergeant and served in the 112 Army Air Force Base Unit during WWII as a radio operator and gunner. After military service, he worked in an administrative capacity with the New York City Police Department for 20 years until he retired as a lieutenant. Jack was able to couple his great interest in the world of finance with his management skills when he was then employed by J.P. Morgan for 17 years as an administrative supervisor. Jack greatly enjoyed his many years of retirement in Virginia, traveling often with his beloved wife of 61 years, Marie Solimando. He also spent much time playing golf and immersing himself with his study of finances and investing. Jack inspired many with his optimistic spirit and love of all that life had to offer. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, who passed in 2009; by his brother, Michael A. Solimando; and a daughter-in-law, Debra Stanley Solimando. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Larsen and her husband, Russell; son, Michael J. Solimando; granddaughter, Jamie Solimando; grandson, Jon Solimando; and a large circle of extended family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 8901 Winterpock Rd., with a reception to follow. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the American Legion Post 1296, 125 Alter Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10304 or Chesterfield Fire and EMS Cares Program, P.O. Box 40, Chesterfield, Va. 23832.
