YOWELL, Mr. Beverley Carlton, 90, of Mechanicsville, died August 1, 2018. He was born July 4, 1928 in Gordonsville, Va., son of the late William Carey Yowell Sr. and Lucy Lacy Yowell. He graduated from Orange High School and attended Virginia Tech. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had a long career with the Federal Highway Department and the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Carey Yowell Jr. and George Lewis Yowell; and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeannine Gill Yowell; as well as his daughter, Nancy Yowell Dickens (Gary) of Huntersville, N.C.; and his son, William David Yowell of Hazlehurst, Miss.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A graveside Masonic service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Boy Scouts of America, Heart of Virginia Council, 4015 Fitzhugh Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230 or the Central Virginia Food Bank, 1415 Rhoadmiller St., Richmond, Va. 23220.
