Raptors’ victory ends U.S. domination of sport

Editor, Times-Dispatch:

The American domination of the game of basketball has ended. The father of basketball, Dr. James Naismith — a Canadian by birth — would be happy.

It is time to rethink our deification and worship of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and others and their out-of-control salaries. The soft-spoken Toronto Raptors — players whose names were unheard of in the television media previously — had the goods and they delivered. My heartfelt congratulations to them. They deserved to win. This was without a doubt an inspiring David-and-Goliath story for all of us.
