Each year, the Richmond Times-Dispatch administers the Richmond Christmas Mother program to help those in need during the holiday season. This tradition dates to 1935. Today the effort is led by the newspaper’s Richmond Christmas Mother charitable organization.
Since its inception, the program has reflected the generosity of our readers. They have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars, which have purchased gifts, clothing and food for Richmond-area families in need of assistance.
Money raised is split between the Central Virginia chapter of the Salvation Army, which uses the funds to administer its holiday gift program, and The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia, our partner in administering a series of holiday grants to non-profits across the region. A special grant to FeedMore also funds holiday meals in underserved areas.
