Third baseman Tyler Plantier crushed three home runs and drove in seven runs as Richmond annihilated Saint Louis (24-27, 12-10) 17-4 at Pitt Field on Thursday to clinch a berth in next week’s Atlantic 10 baseball tournament in New York.

Anthony Forte homered and tripled while going 5 for 6 with three RBIs. Johnny Hipsman had four hits, and Hipsman and Daniel Little added two RBIs apiece for the Spiders (26-22-1, 12-7), who pounded out 18 hits and scored in every inning but the fifth.

Tim Miller (5-2) was the benificiary of UR’s eruption. He allowed two runs in five innings.

VCU 9, George Mason 4: Brett Norwood socked a sixth-inning grand slam that gave the Rams all the buffer they needed in a victory over the Patriots (19-33, 5-17 A-10) in Fairfax.

Norwood totaled three hits and five RBIs. Brandon Henson chipped in three hits, and Steven Carpenter added a solo home run for VCU (37-17, 17-5).
