NORFOLK — John Wilson walked to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Old Dominion edged visiting VCU for a 6-5 win in a back-and-forth intrastate tussle Tuesday at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Liam Hibbits had three hits, scored a run and drove in a pair of runs including the go-ahead run on a double to left center in the top of the eighth for VCU (25-8).

Jared Hancock had four hits for the Monarchs (19-13).

Virginia 9, James Madison 3: Grant Donahue picked up his second win of the season after fanning five Dukes in three innings of relief, and the Cavs routed JMU in Harrisonburg.

Brendan Rivoli blasted a pair of home runs and drove in four runs for UVA (20-13).

Justin Showalter gave four runs, three of them earned, and took the loss for JMU (18-16).

Virginia Tech 7, Marshall 0: Five Hokies combined for a six-hit shutout and eight strikeouts as they trounced the visiting Thundering Herd in Blacksburg.

Ryan Okuda pitched three scoreless frames for Virginia Tech (19-14). Nick Biddison (St. Christopher’s) hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second.

Erik Rodriguez and Zach Inskeep each had a pair of hits for Marshall (18-14).
