BRONX, N.Y. — Connor Gillispie threw six strong innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, but was outdueled by John Stanklewicz as Fordham edged VCU 2-1 in Atlantic 10 tournament play on Thursday.
Gillispie struck out 10 but took the loss. Stanklewicz went seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
Brett Norwood had the lone RBI for top-seeded VCU (39-18), a solo homer in the first.
Alvin Melendez drove in and scored a run for Fordham (36-22).
VCU faced Richmond in an elimination game that began late Thursday and ended too late to make this edition.

Miami 10, UVA 3: Offensive outbursts in the fifth and eighth innings from the Hurricanes spelled an end to the Cavaliers’ ACC tournament, as UVA’s Noah Murdock was tagged for five runs in 4ª innings in what was likely UVA’s final game of the season.
After the sides traded two-run first innings, Miami (39-17) broke the game open with a three-run fifth driven by an error by UVA first baseman Nate Eikhoff.
The ’Canes pulled away with a five-run eighth.
Nic Kent and Jack Weiller led UVA offensively with a pair of base knocks apiece. Kent drove in one run and Weiller two.
The Cavaliers are a long shot to hear their names called when the NCAA tournament field is announced Monday.

Emory 7, Randolph-Macon 5: A three-run sixth inning helped the Eables past the Yellow Jackets in the Division III College World Series in Tyler, Texas.
R-MC (30-16) scored four runs in the first inning but couldn’t hold on.
Randolph-Macon will play Illinois Wesleyan on Friday at 2:30 in an elimination game.
