PLAYER OF THE YEAR: WARD WILKINSON

Year: Senior

School: Hanover

The skinny: Wilkinson finished second after a one-hole playoff in the 4A state tournament. He won the 4A East region tournament and finished second at the Conference 20 tournament. He set a Hanover record by shooting a 6-under-par 29 at Hanover Country Club. He hopes to play golf and will attend the Naval Academy next year.

On his playlist: Country, rap, “and literally everything in between.”

School: Glen Allen

The skinny: Moore finished second in the 5A state tournament after a one-hole playoff. He finished fifth in the 5A South region tournament and tied for fourth in the Conference 11 tournament. His nine-hole stroke average was 37.6.

School: James River

The skinny: Taliaferro finished tied for third in the 6A state tournament, tied for sixth in the 6A South tournament and second in the Conference 3 tournament, where the Rapids won their third consecutive conference championship. His 18-hole stroke average was 73.

JACK SWEENEY

Year: Junior

School: Deep Run

The skinny: Sweeney finished ninth in the 5A state tournament and was the Wildcats’ second-lowest scorer as they won their second consecutive state title and third since 2013. He was the 5A South region champion and finished second in the Conference 3 tournament. His nine-hole stroke average was 35.2.

Andrew Kennedy, Mills Godwin - All-Metro golf 2016-2017

The skinny: Kennedy finished seventh in the 5A state tournament and fourth in the 5A South tournament, where he led the Eagles to the region title. He tied for 12th in the Conference 3 tournament. His 18-hole stroke average was 73.475.

Diana Domenech, Mills Godwin - All-Metro golf 2016-2017

School: Mills Godwin

The skinny: Domenech finished tied for 13th in the 5A state tournament and 11th in the Girls Open state tournament. She finished ninth in the 5A South region tournament, where she was the second-lowest scorer for the champion Eagles. She won the Conference 11 crown, as well as medalist honors at the Independence High School Invitational and the girls mini-regional tournament hosted by Hanover High School.
