Bird's Jaden Payoute pulls down Meadowbrook QB Gregory Fong-Wilson during opening game action at Meadowbrook High School on Thursday, August 24, 2017.

L.C. Bird quarterback Jaden Payoute has been invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He’s likely to play wide receiver or defensive back there because those are the positions he could play in college. Payoute has committed to Virginia Tech.

When his junior season ended, Payoute (6-foot-3, 195 pounds) didn’t have any college offers. Then he started winning over recruiters with his speed. He won the Class 5 state track and field championship in the 100-meter dash in the spring, completing the race in 10.67 seconds. He also helped his 4x100 relay team win a state title.

He chose the Hokies during the summer.
