Deep Run tennis player Nina Sorkin has committed to play for Virginia Tech. A rising senior, Sorkin has been named All-Metro player of the year each of the past three seasons.
Tech offered her Monday morning, and she accepted on the spot, said Maria Sorkin, her mother and coach at Deep Run. Maria played at Virginia Tech, and the Hokies were Nina's top choice.
Nina also considered Florida State, James Madison, Richmond, Boston, Liberty and Denver, her mother said.
In three years, she hasn't lost a high school singles match. She went 23-0 her junior year and claimed state titles in the 5A singles, doubles and team events. Tennisrecruiting.net ranks her the No. 1 player in the state in the class of 2017.
Last week, Sorkin won five matches in the U.S. Tennis Association National Clay Court Championship, reaching the quarterfinals.
